Class Cabinet Meeting Notes (February 6, 2012)

Meeting Minutes:

Opening items: Larissa reviewed the class handbook and discussed where we are on the 5-year plan, including gearing up for the 10th reunion in 2015.
Treasurer Items:
- Melissa reported on the state of the class bank account (~$6,000) and her efforts to get it into an interest bearing account. Shannon stated that a class treasurers’ meeting is forthcoming.
- The class account started off with a gift from older classes, and also is composed of part of the 5th year reunion fees.
- Ways to get funds: Dues, selling merchandise, etc.
- Sarah suggested selling merchandise now, as well as at reunion
- Suggested amount for class dues is $10-$15
- We discussed incentivizing annual class dues from now until Reunion
Reunion News:
- According to Shannon, our 10th reunion in 2015 will likely be on the commencement weekend.
Class Newsletter Contents:
- Plan to solicit dues
- Potentially selling merchandise
- Financial reports/Treasurer Update
- Reunion reminder
- 2005 classmate features (to be solicited via Facebook/Wordpress site)
- Mini-reunion? Larissa proposed hosting a mini-reunion in the spring/early summer at her home in Cape Cod.
Action items:
- Each cabinet member should generate a couple merchandise ideas (class-specific or not).
- Poornima to look into ways to sell merchandise (Cafe Press, Zazzle, etc) — she’ll report back from the Smith Toronto meeting on 2/19
- Maybe Brigid could contribute a couple of designs, since she’s a professional graphic?
Follow up:
- Proposed follow up call in one month. Larissa to send Doodle request.

Dear 2005 Smithies:

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! As I write this, the outcome of the epic battle between Giants and Patriots is still… okay, not really that important to me. But I love the frenzy of the fans (especially those here in New England), the cleverness of the commercials, and yes, the buffalo sauce on the wings.

Hope you’re all doing well and enjoying your own Sunday experiences. Here’s the standard spiel: Please put on your Summer 2012 hats and send in a class note for the 2005 column!

Due Date: Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at noon EST.

ps. Because several folks have asked: Yes, there is a serious lag between note submission and issue publication: The next SAQ that you receive will be the Spring 2012 issue. But notes for that issue were submitted back in November. These notes are for the Summer 2012 issue. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Dearest 2005 Smithies:

First, an apology. Usually I give you two weeks to send in class notes, but this time around you only get one. I could write you a treatise about best laid plans, but the reality is I had a Very Busy Heck of a Week. Between the travel to weddings and the work deadlines, I wasn’t able to get this out. So if you don’t get a chance to send me your notes by the deadline of Sunday, August 14th (noon EST), rest assured that (as always), I will submit them for the next issue.

But if you have some time right nowto write up a note, I know your classmates would appreciate it. (As would I, as I never tire of getting these glimpses into your varied and interesting lives!)

Due Date: Sunday August 14, 2011 at noon EST.
